‘Hydrating’ and ‘quenching thirst’ are no longer the primary selling points for beverages. Armed with extensive information, today’s consumers are becoming more discerning and conscious of their health. They are demanding more from beverage developers. Whether it is nutritional, functional or enhanced, better-for-you beverages are set to be in great demand.
Beverages are an exceptional platform for innovation because they are good vehicles to deliver functional ingredients and demonstrate interesting product concepts.
There are several types of fruit beverages and they can be sub-categorized as explained in the figure below.
Fruit Smoothies
In recent years, consumption of fruit-based smoothies has increased. Fruit based smoothies generally contain high levels of nutrients such as antioxidants, fibers, and vitamins. Smoothies are a blended form of beverage which are a typical semi-liquid, smooth consistency, containing fruit(s), concentrated juice, and other complements such as yogurt, milk, or honey, and are prepared with different combinations of fruit.
Nowadays juice& smoothies manufacturers are customer centered and focus on introducing different juices varieties, flavors, and mix juices along with innovative packaging and detailed nutrition and health claims.
Fruit Juices
The global juice market is expanding and it is likely driven by the fitness conscious consumer and the demand for healthy food products.
Concentrated Beverages
They can be divided into three basic groups- squash, cordial and fruit juice concentrates. These products are diluted with water before consumption.
Fruit juice concentrates are produced by the mechanical processing of fruit followed by the concentration of solids. When the fruit juice concentrate is diluted, it fulfills the requirements for ’fruit juice’.
